I'm Waiting for This

A western, and one that has marauding alien invaders? Sign. Me. Up (says the Firefly fan).

  1. Cowboys and aliens? I'm skeptical!

  2. Big fan of Firefly too.  So I completely understand your thinking.  I suspect I will enjoy it as well as long as the CGI isn't a disaster.

While we're on the topic of films. I have absolutely no interest in seeing Skyline [Strauss Brothers Aliens Vs Predators 2].  It looks about as lifeless as the kind of CGI work the Strauss brothers enjoy making.  Good for them. It just isn't my style.

Also, my friend, on the subject of Iron Man and Iron Man 2.  I watched the latter int he theatre.  It was okay.  I wasn't blown away.  I enjoyed certain moments.  I went back and watched Iron Man.  Likewise, enjoyed certain things about it but ultimately thought it received more acclaim and hype than it deserved.

    Cheers my friend

  3. Yeah, let's hope it's more like SERENITY and less like WILD WILD WEST.

But I've got a lot of faith in Jon Favreau. He's a decent enough director and he's certainly got the talent in front of the camera.

  4. Me, too! Daniel Craig AND Harrison Ford AND Olivia Wilde? My head my explode from the massive awesomeness.

  5. Good to hear from you, NW. I know it sounds way out there, but like Firefly and some Star Trek episodes, it's not without precedence. I like what Favreau did with the film Zathura. Thanks for the comment.

  6. I very much agree that CGI can unmake a solid sci-fi story (see the recent I Am Legend as my case in point), SFF. This one does have great potential. Did you ever see Favreau's Zathura? He does have good instincts when it comes to the genre (I see the Iron Man movies as a completely different category). As always, I appreciate your thoughts and comments on the subject, my friend.

  7. I do like Favreau.  He has a firm hand behind that camera and framing a scene.  I likes certain sequences and ideas from Iron Man but... well, I just didn't love them.  Zathura really surprised me.  I enjoyed that one with my son.  Very well done. Right there with you.

  8. Agreed about where we hope it goes, and with our man <span>Favreau</span>. Thanks, J.D.

  9. I had a feeling you'd be on this, Elyse. Craig and Wilde sound like quite a pairing, and we'll have Harrison Ford doing one of his rare villain characters. Got to see that! Thanks.

  10. Good to hear, SFF. I loved watching Zathura with my kids, too (when it came out and on disc at home). Thanks.

  11. Much to my surprise, you get several hits at youtube for "cowboys and aliens trailer." This one was, by far, the best!

I'm really digging that movie poster. I also enjoy its shading to exploitation of a nice male form (usu movie posters have the ladies exploited) but I haven't decided my thoughts re the overly, erm, snug pants in the bottom area.

  12. LOL! That's one great trailer, Rachel. I love seeing Julie Newmar performing a small reprise purr from her Catwoman days! Great comment. Thanks for adding to this.

  13. Yes, was very funny, indeed! :)

I see you managed a link... my html was rejected in my comment. Just when I think I can use a computer...

  14. It's not you or your html-fu. It has everything to do with the comment system I use. Just use Echo's menu that's right above the comment field. To insert a link just highlight the text you wish to use, click the chain-link icon, paste the URL into the provided field, and click the Insert button. HTH

  15. See, if it weren't for you and PCN, I'd be totally ignorant of this film!  (That's what happens when you DVR most of your shows and fast-forward through the commercials.)  I mean, holy crap, this one has some of my favorite people in front of and behind the cameras!  Thanks for the heads-up, lp13.  If I'd just heard the title, I would have blown it off!

And STILL have not watched my Firefly and Serenity DVDS!

  16. That's what I thought, too, Novelwhore, until I saw the trailer and who was involved.

You must rectify this, Christine. I've begun introducing this to She-who-must-be-obeyed and she's become quite a fan of Nathan Fillion. But, she watches Castle, too. Anyway, I don't think you'll be disappoint with Firefly and the Serenity film.

  18. Yep. It's a good cast.

  19. Yes, this could be very good or very bad - I'm hoping for the former. Anything that means more westerns (in any form) on the big screen has to be a good thing.

  20. We are very much in agreement there, Colin. Thanks.

  21. Oh, I don't know. Harrison Ford hasn't impressed me lately in any action roles. Think he's getting too old for them now. I mean really, I loved him in Indiana Jones...and Star Wars...but even then he looked ridiculous trying to run.

  22. The atypical villain role for HF might do him, and us, good. Remember how great Timothy Dalton (post-James Bond) was in The Rocketeer (and later in Hot Fuzz) as the villain? Same could happen here. Thanks, Jen.

  23. What that for the concept? Or, as Rachel mentioned, for those "snug pants in the bottom area.", Jen? ;)

  24. Off-topic re: Hot Fuzz - Brian and I were out of town and I had called my sister from the hotel.  When I told her we were about to rent and watch Hot Fuzz from the hotel menu, she interrupts and says, "TMI!! I don't want to hear that!"  Confused, I asked her what the problem was and she informed me that she didn't need to know what porn we were renting!  I swear I laughed until I cried.
