I thought I'd end the work (and Oscar) week with a forgotten song for this first friday in March. Resurrected recently in Wes Anderson's wonderful adaptation of the children's novel written by Roald Dahl, Fantastic Mr. Fox, this was the upbeat, up-tempo song used for the final sequence in the film. Written by Bobby Fuller, it was his first top 40 hit in 1965. When people recall the artist, this track seems to take a backseat to Fuller's second hit and higher placed song, I Fought The Law. Still, it remains an infectious tune made by an artist heavily influenced by the music legend (and fellow Texan - my mother would be so proud to hear me say that), Buddy Holly.

I feel weird, I just put Fantastic in que, last nite we watch Memento. Polar opposites?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip.
I might have to start my own movie/pop blog, another idea, really weird deaths in the pop cultural realm.
Fun song to get start my day off with! Have a great weekend, lp13!
ReplyDeleteHnL: that's an idea. And Bobby Fuller would be an excellent one to start such a post.
ReplyDeleteChristine: it's a great song. Fantastic Mr. Fox is also an expectedly fun and entertaining film. A lot of adults really like it, too [like me ;-)].
Thank you both for your comments.
We've heard several good reviews of Fantastic Mr. Fox. It's definitely on our to-be-seen list. But it has got some pretty heavy competition against Up! Absolutely LOVED Up!
ReplyDeleteGive my thanks to "the cubs" for getting you to post the lyrics! I was be-bopping around my office not really paying attention to them. ;-)
I own a version of that song on an old Marshall Crenshaw album, but off the top of my head I can't remember which album it is.
ReplyDeleteChristine: Up is something quite special, and would be my pick for the Oscar. I was just surprised that FMF is almost as likeable (with a decidedly different bent). When you guys take it in, let me know what you think of it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteJeff: Found it! It's on Marshall Crenshaw's Good Evening album. Sounds like a good cover of this oldie. Thanks, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I never heard this song before. Or at least I don't remember having heard it. Very catchy, and yeah, it's got a little of that Buddy Holly thing going on and maybe a little Ritchie Valens, too, in those opening bars?
ReplyDeleteYep, I'd agree. The Holly/Valens vibe is very much there with Let Her Dance, my friend. It's definitely a catchy tune. So much so, the kids and I have been on a bit of a binge with it [enough for my wife to threaten to hit somebody if she hears it again ;-)]. Thank you, Naomi.
