Death List Part 3

Continuation of the Death List series:
  1. Part 1 - Self Sacrifice
  2. Part 2 - Villain Comeuppance
I will think on you dead, until my husband makes you so. And then I will think on you no more. ~ Mary MacGregor (Rob Roy)
Everyone makes mistakes. It's likely the one tendency that makes all of us human. Some of these slip ups are more serious than others, too. And since this is another of my death lists, you can probably guess where I'm going with this. I'm sure some folk will point to those who chronicle the mistakes of some that result in their leaving this world, permanently. The Darwin Awards track what many deem as enterprising demises:

Honoring those who improve the species... by accidentally removing themselves from it!

  1. The Quigley mistake is one of my favorites. But then there's something that is, for me, deeply satisfying about a Western-movie villain getting his comeuppance.

Like in McLintock! when John Wayne is angry at a guy: "Pilgrim, you caused a lot of trouble this morning, might have got somebody killed. Somebody oughta belt you in the mouth. But I won't, I won't. The hell I won't!"

    Classic.

  2. Those are a couple great examples from a couple of really fun westerns, Corey. Thanks, my friend.

  4. Yeah, it's a great quote from that film. And it was delivered so well by Jessica Lange. Thanks, Naomi.

  5. My vote would be for Lance Henrikensen's death in HARD TARGET. He finds a grenade in his lap with the pin out and I believe actually says, "Whoops" before blowing up. heh.

  6. That's a good one, J.D. I like that film by John Woo--I would have liked it better if Woo had gotten Kurt Russell for the lead as he originally wanted. Oh, well. Thanks for the comment, J.D.

  7. Woo's cut of HARD TARGET is even better. There's more of his trademark ultra-violence and some of the characters are fleshed out. Still doesn't redeem Van Damme's awful performance but I don't think anything could! ; )
