However, the free open source <a href="http://www.videolan.org/vlc/" rel="nofollow">VLC</a> utility is what many use (as I did) to do such captures. It plays DVDs on computer, and when you pause the film at the point you want, you can take (right-click) Video - Snapshot to get an image file.
